R&B sensation Brian McKnight brings his soulful sound to Tacoma

Brian McKnight has earned himself a spot in contemporary music history. McKnight’s musical career began in childhood in Buffalo, New York, when he became a member of his church, NY choir and a bandleader for his high school, Sweet Home High School. In 1987, McKnight’s older brother, Claude, and his band, Take 6, signed a record deal with Warner Brothers. This encouraged McKnight to shop his own demo tapes and by the age of 19, he’d signed his first recording deal with Mercury Records subsidiary Wing Records (McKnight ended up recording his albums for Mercury). Lady Gaga does the dome

It’s a wonder that adoring fans screaming for Lady Gaga didn’t bring down the Tacoma Dome Aug. 21. Throughout the entire show Gaga kept the crowd of 20,000 in the palm of her hand, connecting with her “little monsters” in her own, unique way that is quickly becoming legendary. Backed by a group of gender-bending muscle boys, Gaga tore through many of her best-loved hits and even presented a new rock song from her soon to be released album. With lots of eye candy to feast on – a vortex of fire that spun atop her piano, a very frightening looking sea creature with giant sharp teeth she called “the fame monster,” and her brassiere that shot streams of sparks – Gaga fans danced and pogoed until it felt as if they could cause an earthquake. Her message of uninhibited love, inclusion of all people and unabashed individuality, coupled with her advocacy for LGBT homeless youth, delighted her audience and made for a night to remember.
